Casual Tech Meetup - 2 Years in the Blink of an Eye
September 2024 marks the two-year anniversary of Casual Tech Meetup, a community I founded in 2022. Over the past two years, I’ve continuously refined and clarified its purpose. Now, I feel I have a concrete answer: we connect changemakers via transformative gatherings. We bring together workshops, events, and diverse collaborators, all aimed at inspiring conversations about growth and innovation among those driving change.
I want to share two small but personal “aha” moments from behind the scenes of Casual Tech Meetup:
- Casual Tech Meetup as Creative Expression
Casual Tech Meetup will always remain a side project and a form of personal creative expression, reflecting my personality and preferences. From the black-and-white photo souvenirs I give to guests, to curating events with co-hosts and collaborators I know personally, each detail is an extension of my vision. We choose cash-bar events for flexibility, maintain full transparency about the event agenda, and focus purely on human connection and facilitation. Whether it’s system mapping to introduce participants or relying on small-group, word-of-mouth marketing, everything is designed with intention.
I’m creating a meetup that I enjoy, and I hope our participants enjoy it too.
- Redefining My Role in Casual Tech Meetup
When I first started Casual Tech Meetup, I saw myself primarily as a host, bringing people together and fostering connections. After two years, I’ve grown to love this responsibility, but I’ve also expanded my focus.
Now, I see myself as both a host and an experience curator. I work closely with collaborators to bring their ideas to life while incorporating elements that embody the essence of CTM. Think of CTM as a select shop—we offer one carefully curated event per month, each designed to deliver a transformative experience. We hope participants leave feeling inspired after every gathering.
Each co-host or collaborator brings a message or topic they’re passionate about, inviting us to explore it together. Through our events, workshops, and experiences, we aim to communicate that message and unite a diverse group of people in meaningful ways.
I’ve witnessed innovation emerge when collaborating with individuals from different fields. Everyone contributes their unique worldview and perspective. My goal is to curate events that bring people from various disciplines together, allowing us all to experience the rich intersection of ideas and perspectives through these gatherings.
